An audiophile brand such as Bang & Olufsen is finally jumping into the trend wagon by introducing its gaming wireless headset called Beoplay Portal. This marks a new page as the gaming headphone is B&O’s first gaming headset since the company was founded by Camillo Bang and Svend Olufsen in 1925.

Design

The Beoplay Portal design has absolutely no gaming impression, and at first glance, it looks just as luxurious as the other headphones made by B&O.

From the aluminum construction to the genuine sheepskin wrapping the memory foam pads, almost every part of the device looks at once premium.

At the same time, B&O also pays attention to the comfort factor; the headband is covered with a cloth made of bamboo fiber. The device’s overall weight is also not more than 282 grams.

Connection

Beoplay Portal was developed as part of the “Designed for Xbox” program. That means it can connect to the Xbox console seamlessly using the Xbox Wireless protocol (2.4 GHz).

Alternatively, Beoplay Portal also offers Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, complete with support for the aptX Adaptive codec.

Connection via cable is also supported, either using a 3.5 mm audio cable or a USB-C cable. If connected to a PC via USB-C, the battery will automatically be charged.

Features

Behind each earcup, there is a dynamic driver with a diameter of 40 mm. The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal also features adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC) technology, as well as Dolby Atmos support for virtually presenting surround sound effects.

One thing that is quite unique from Beoplay Portal is a feature called Own Voice, which according to B&O, allows users to hear their own voice clearly while speaking.

On a single charge, the Beoplay Portal battery is estimated to last for 12 hours of use while connected via Xbox Wireless, and the ANC is on continuously. In the case that it is connected via Bluetooth, the battery life can be doubled to 24 hours.
