Nike has officially welcomed NBA star Devin Booker to its signature basketball family with the introduction of his first signature shoe, the Nike Book 1. The announcement came on September 14, 2023, marking a significant milestone in Booker’s career and Nike’s commitment to fueling the culture of basketball.

Who is Devin Booker?

A three-time All-Star at just 26 years old, Devin Booker has made a name for himself as one of the NBA’s top shooting guards. Known for his methodical approach to the game, Booker has always been focused on honing his skills and is inspired by the fundamentals of basketball greats.

Design Philosophy: A “Future Classic”

The Nike Book 1 is designed to be a “future classic,” according to Booker. The shoe aims to combine both lifestyle and performance elements, creating a timeless piece of footwear. Booker was actively involved in the design process, offering initial inspiration from iconic Nike silhouettes like the Air Force 1, the Blazer, and the AJ1.

Inspired by Vintage Cars and Modern Tech

Interestingly, the design also draws inspiration from one of Booker’s restored cars—a ’72 Chevy Blazer K5, nicknamed “Uncle Larry.” The car features a vintage exterior but is high-tech on the inside, mirroring the dual nature of the Nike Book 1.

Advanced Technology for Peak Performance

The shoe offers a tailored combination of lateral stability, cushioning, and responsiveness. Nike’s design teams utilized Cushlon 2.0 foam for the midsole and added a rigid TPU sidewall for extra support. A top-loaded Nike Zoom air bag in the heel enhances the shoe’s performance capabilities.

Material Choices: Durability Meets Comfort

The Nike Book 1 features a workwear-inspired canvas and twill upper for added durability. It also includes a suede collar and genuine leather across the forefoot for a plush, broken-in feel. The pull tab at the heel is inspired by a book spine, adding a unique touch to the shoe’s design.

Coming Soon: Spring 2024

Basketball enthusiasts can look forward to the Nike Book 1 releasing in Spring 2024, available in two signature colorways.
